Most Anticipated Books (Fall-Winter ’18)

I am back on my bookish flow. Excuse my lingo because I am watching Gilmore Girls and I’ve taken to speaking like them… yea, it’s frustrating me too.

Anyways, I am super excited about some of the awesome books coming out this Fall-Winter. I desperately wanted to get some ARCs at BookCon but I wasn’t so lucky.

but without further ado…

First, Kingdom of Ash I LOVE SARAH J. MASS! I can’t wait to finish the Throne of Glass series but I’m also dreading it. I’ve been so in love with this series. It’s bittersweet to see it go. It comes out October 23rd and it’s already preordered!

Kingdom of Ash (Throne of Glass, #7)

Vengeful by V.E Schwab, she is becoming one a new favorite author. I love her social media presence and her writing. I finished the Shades of Magic Trilogy and soon I will read Vicious and Monsters of Verity books. I cannot wait to finish reading all that she’s written because I think she is awesome. I love finding awesome new authors. I found her at BookCon during my hunt finding Tomi Adeyemi… MY QUEEN!

Vengeful (Villains, #2)

Wildcard by Marie Lu, I wanted to get this ARC so badly at BookCon and I didn’t get one!  Marie Lu was one of my first faves authors and I love her and her writing. I read the audiobooks for Warcross and it made me so happy during my semester!

Wildcard (Warcross #2)

Cruel Prince by Holly Black, I don’t know much about the book but I’m interested in reading more books by Holly Black. The book sounds so interesting.

The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1)

Dance of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson. Once again, I haven’t been fangirling about the book but the author interests me and I’d like to read more!

Dance of Thieves (Dance of Thieves, #1)

Peace out! More bookish posts are coming soon!

As a fellow LGBTQ+ person I’d like to say, HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!

I am so excited to go to the parade this year and finally go to a gay bar!

I don’t talk about my sexuality much, very few actually know that I’m bisexual but, I am! Just wanted to get that off my chest.

NOW! LGBTQ+ books that I’ve read and want to read!

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson,
yea, I fucking sobbed reading this book. SO GOOD!
I'll Give You the Sun

Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel
I read this a few years ago and I really related to it! it’s about the author’s childhood. Growing up with an alcoholic and abusive father and everyone telling her who to be.

Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic

Pretty much all of Cassandra Clare’s novels have a character in the LGBTQ+ community. I love Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood. The fae are like all gay, I love Mark Blackthorn and all of his romances. Hellen Blackthorn is super gay and I love it!

Lord of Shadows

Lord of Shadows (The Dark Artifices, #2)

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

My heavenly goodness! This freaking book!!! GEEZ LOUISE! I can’t wait for book two!

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, #1)

Furyborn (Empirium, #1)

The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli

Won it at BookCon, the OwlCrate booth! Holla, homies!

The Upside of Unrequited

Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova

I keep seeing press for the second book, Bruja Born and I want to be in on the hype.

Labyrinth Lost (Brooklyn Brujas, #1)

Runaways, Vol. 1: Find Your Way Home by Rainbow Rowell

First of all, I love Rainbow Rowell. Second of all, have you freaking seen Runaways on Hulu? It’s so good! I love Marvel TV shows.

Runaways, Vol. 1: Find Your Way Home

Tell me if I missed anything! Comment below with some recommendations. I’m trying to catch up on my gay lit. Nah, mean? I love gay characters. Can everyone stop being so hetero? Every book I read, some girl is fawning over some dude or vice versa. Give me some girls loving girls.

I’m gonna drop a few of my fave shows with some awesome leads. Brooklyn 99, The Bold Type (and I will fight anyone because The Bold Type is such a big inspiration for me).I just finished One Day at a Time and golly gee that shows is awesome. They touch on so many awesome topics, being gay, being an immigrant in America, having mental health issues. It’s amazing!

I hope you all enjoy this month of rainbows and fun. Life your best lives. Stay positive!

Thanks, cuties!

My First BookCon

Hello all,

I am writing from bed. I’ve been flu level sick for the past two days. It’s been so shitty but I am feeling well enough to sit upright and write.

Anyways, this Saturday I went to my very first BookCon and it was freaking awesome! I’ve never gone to any book related conventions so this year, I decided to treat myself.

I went alone because I don’t have any friends who are avid readers and would have enjoyed going to the convention or even paying for the ticket. I wouldn’t have enjoyed going with someone who didn’t have the same passion for books as I do.

Somehow I wasn’t nervous at all about going, I did so much research before I went because I wanted to find out what I should expect and what ARCs (Advanced Readers Copies) would drop. I love that the bookish community shared their experiences on how to navigate the convention. It was very helpful. It was comforting knowing what to expect.

I woke up super early and brought snacks, which was recommended. The convention is so busy. I didn’t expect to stand in lines for most of the time I was there. I was expecting to get a bunch of ARCs for books that I enjoy reading because I saw people who went to BookExpo had some great ones. All the books I received, I haven’t heard of at least I have the chance to get to know some new authors.

Speaking of authors, Tomi Adeyemi who wrote Children of Blood and Bone signed my book! And she almost stole my pen. Lol. I am a complete fangirl for her and it’s insane that she is only two years older than me and is signed for a movie deal and is already writing her trilogy.

At BookCon, I met a few bookstagrammers and book bloggers which have given me the inspiration to create more. I love the community of book lovers and I want to join. Bookish events would be so much better if I came with friends who were just as passionate as I am.

For my very first time at BookCon, I don’t have much advice to give. Just to go, don’t be afraid to go alone. I didn’t go last year because I didn’t have anyone to go with but I’m happy I didn’t let it stop me this year. There are people who also go alone so just be open to meeting new people.

Well, here is a list of all that I got from BookCon:
The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli
Under My Skin by Lisa Unger
Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand
Born Criminal by Angelica Shirley Carpenter
Love Me, Love Me Not by SM Koz
Making Friends by Kristen Gudsnuk
Maiden Voyage by Sarah Jane
Lone Wolf Lawman by Delores Fossen
Devil in Tartan by Julia London

I might do a giveaway because I have so many books that I would like to giveaway. I loved BookCon. I want to go to more bookish/writing events in the future!

Thanks for reading!

May Wrap-Up

Hello, homies

I read far fewer books than I initially anticipated. I didn’t think I’d need so much time to rest after the semester ended. I kind of thought I’d be able to jump back into the swing of things but as you know, I chilled out a lot.

I’ve been rereading the Mortal Instruments series, I finished City of Glass and now I’m onto City of Fallen Angels. I really do enjoy this series. Now that I’m rereading it. I noticed that it’s kind of like its own fanfiction. Like Cassandra Clare loved her characters so much she gives them certain victories. Shipping her own characters. It’s biblical fanfiction turned into loving its own fanfiction. I love this shit.

City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3)City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4)

I finished reading Children of Blood and Bone. It gets 6/5 stars. It’s so good. I have the audiobook and I want to reread it before I write up my very first book review on this site. I freaking love Tomi Adeyemi. It sucks that I can’t see her at BookCon this weekend but I am still excited to go. I have a BookCon ticket for this Saturday. I can’t wait.

Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orïsha, #1)

I finished The Celestine Prophecy, I gave it 3/5 stars because though the information given was perfect and well needed. I feel like there was a lot of rambling and unnecessary information. I found it hard to read at certain points. I love that the intention of the book is to be handed from person to person and that it is about life giving you what you need in certain moments. Some things just felt forced.

The Celestine Prophecy (Celestine Prophecy, #1)

I think it’s funny how little I read. I honestly thought that I read a lot but looking at this list… It makes sense though. No complaints. I know I’ll read more next month when I’m back on my feet.

A June TBR will be up soon!

Hello Hello!

I will be starting something new this summer! Monthly TBRs (cool people lingo for To Be Read). I am super excited to begin. I’ve been wanting to do these for a while and I am ready to begin. The system will be doing a TBR on my blog and then be doing a Wrap-up on my YouTube channel so head over there. I’ll let you know when it’s up on my Instagram.

So far, I’ve finished rereading City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare. Rereading helps me get through stress so it’s been pretty good. I kind of want to reread the whole series because I miss reading Cassandra Clare’s writing, the world of Shadowhunters is so good! I can’t wait to read Queen of Air and Darkness. it comes out December 4th. I CANNOT WAIT!City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2)
Now for the books, I will be reading after these damned finals are done!

First will totally be Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. FUCK! I HAVE BEEN DYING TO READ THIS BOOK!  I heard about this author like a year or two ago. People said she was going to be the next J.K Rowling. Student title but it drew me in. I can’t wait to read this baby! It’s totally gonna be in my senior project!

Sarah J. Maas is one of my favorite authors and I love everything she writes. The last book of the A Court of Thorns and Roses series was so damn good and now there is A Court of Frost and Starlight. It’s a novella and although I heard, nothing really happens. I really do miss the characters so I am excited!

I’ve been wanting to read A Discovery of Witches. This one since I got it two years ago in London. I just got the audiobook on audible to ensure that I read it this month. I’m very excited to read it. I hard so many amazing things about this book and I’m looking forward to reading it.

Now onto Half of a Yellow Sun! I love my black authors! I picked this book up when I was in London. I’m really interested in reading books by black authors. There aren’t many books with people who look like me.

Now for my three comics. My comics have been on my shelf for far too long so I’m excited to read as much as possible.  Batman/Superman: Volume 1 & Volume 2.

These are the books I plan on reading but sometimes I just throw new books into the mix. Check out my wrap up video to see all the books I’ve read.

Thanks for reading my very first TBR post!

Christmas Reading List pt. 2

I’m tired of writing posts about being stressed so, this will be my posts until I can actually think straight. Watch my Vlogmas here.

The classic tale, a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. What is Christmas without Ebenezer Scrooge I once tried to write a story copying the theme and it did not work so well. For those of you who know nothing of this story, you know who you are… catch up!

and another one is… My True Love Gave to Me. It’s a collection of holiday stories written by 12 different authors, their names are on the cover below. It’s so cute. It’s like Hallmark movies but as a book… and 100 times better. Like, they actually have great plots.

That’s all folks. Two books a post! See ya!

Christmas Reading List!

Hello, loves! In honor of Christmas, I will be posting some recommended reads every now and then.

Christmas is my all-time favorite holiday. I even have a list of things to drag one of my humbug besties too. Check out my Vlogmas, it will all be there. Lol. I have not posted my first vlogmas yet so here is my channel!

Let’s get this thing started.

First book,

Ummmmm… DUH! I love reading and watching Harry Potter this time of year! It’s so festive and literally magical. It’s also my all time favorite book/movie series. I love the Harry Potter franchise, this is from your resident Hufflepuff!

Second book today is…
Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

I picked up this book in high school and it’s about two book lovers. So, DUH! This book made me dream of falling in love with a book lover. I put myself in Lily’s shoes so many times. I made it a tradition to reread it every year. I will be reading it when I am finished with school, finally! It’s such a quick read! There is also a second book, I didn’t love it that much but, that’s just me!

That’s all folk! Maybe I’ll give recommendations every Friday/Saturday or create a special holiday post day. We shall see!

It’s late because ya girl is in crunch time at school and work so just deal with me! Vlogmas will be up every day at around 5. You better watch out!

Books to heal.

Just got my first hit of anxiety/depression. It surprises me. It sneaks up like a ninja and sinks its claws in me. It happens when I’m overwhelmed. Too much input. Too much happening and things to think about. It makes me wonder if I had the strength to take on as much as I’d like. I don’t feel very strong right now. I just feel like I should take it easy. I get waves of bad thoughts and I don’t know how to push them out. My ways of getting rid of them before were bad and now I want to figure out healthier ways. I feel like locking myself in. But I know it would harm more than help. I’ve been looking into figuring out what I like and what I need. I’d love a nice cozy sweater and hot chocolate but it’s like 80 degrees. I’m listening to Dodie Clark’s sad love songs and singing alone. My friend Jade is gonna come by to watch movies with me.

I think I should get into my leisure readings. I’m gonna show the books I loved and read and books I’d love to read. Its long but, I love books and I’m so stressed. I don’t feel good in my dome piece. I want to cry and scream and sit in a corner alone. Instead, I’ll write this long post.

Harry Potter series – Always makes me feel good. Plus, the audiobooks read by Stephen Fry is great to fall asleep to.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)
Throne of Glass Series – I love a badass heroine. I will always recommend this book. The 6th book just came out and I’ve love to read it but I do know it will take over my whole life.
Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)
Raven’s Boys Series – This book series is so good. I head it last August before going away to school and I loved it so much. Her prose is so good. I loved this! It’s all kinds of witchy.
The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1)
Cassandra Clare anything –  Her writing takes you to a whole new place. I just get swept away. Her books are written in the same realm button at different time periods. They’re all so fucking good. I love being washed away by this new world. Lady Midnight just got the second book and I WANT TO READ IT! I’m just poor and Overdrive doesn’t have it yet.
City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)
Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1)
Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices, #1)
The Lunar Chronicles – This book series took me on a trip. It was wild and so much fun. I loved reading their stories.
Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)
Legend – I can honestly say I don’t remember reading this book. I want to reread it. I read it in high school. Could have been six years ago, sophomore year! Geez. I loved how the book series ended though.
Legend (Legend, #1)

Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things – This book inspired me to write my blog. It’s all about mental health and embracing who you are. This book made me want to figure out how I can make my life better. I’m still working on that.

Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things

Which is why, after last Friday and I noticed how mean I was to people while drinking. My mood has been so bad lately. I don’t know what it is. I was drunk and mean and I’m just not gonna drink anymore. I’ve been wanting to for a while but last Friday made me want to seriously do it.  I’m starting out with a month. I like starting with baby steps. Fridays will be hard because everyone drinks on Friday. Having alcoholics in my family scares me and I don’t want to go down that path. I want healthy ways to cope and get through life. I’m going to make a therapy appointment in the hopes that I can get on some medication. I hate this feeling.

In other news, I want to start a series called Empowerment Monday’s (working title) where I post articles about the amazing women in my life. The women who keep me going. It’s a new approach, anew focus and I’m excited to start things up. Not exactly sure when I’ll begin but here’s a heads up!

The Rose Society by Marie Lu

Hello, Everyone!

I’ve finally finished reading the Rose Society, the second book of the Young Elites. It has taken me such a long time. Not because I didn’t enjoy it but because I’ve had so many distractions that I couldn’t focus.. plus, I’ve listened to so many audio books but finally I am done!

And O.M.G it was so good! So many plot twists! It is also so interesting to be reading from a “villains” point of view. Although, is she really a villain?  If so who are the bad guys because everyone in the book has done bad things. Just because she can feel the darkness of the underworld doesn’t make her bad because she does have good intentions, well, mostly.

This book is an emotional rollercoaster. So much craziness happens. I expected one thing they got something completely different. Geez! I feel so wary now. I am nervous about the next book because I know it will be so freaking intense.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. Although, it can get a bit unsettling reading from a villain’s point of view. I am exhausted. That book is tugging at something in me…
